Emmett Louis Till was born on July 25, 1941 and was murdered on August 28, 1955 at the age of 14, in Mississippi. He was brutally beaten and tortured before being drowned in the Tallahatchie river. His body was identified three days later. He was missing an eye, had a bullet hole in his head, only had one ear and was found with a 70-pound cotton gin fan attached with barbed wire, at the bottom of the river. This was because he whistled at 21-year-old Carolyn Bryant. Emmett was from Chicago, Illinois but was visiting his Great Uncle in Money, Mississippi. Emmett's father and mother, separated in 1942. Louis, Emmett's father, past away three years later in 1945. In the trial of his murder, J.W. Milam and Roy Bryant, were charged with 2nd degree murder. The jury consisted of all white men, which resulted in the two suspects found Not Guilty. The two suspects died 40 years later due to cancer. Mamie Till, Emmett's mother, died on January 6, 2003.
